The interactive nature of AI tools, such as VoiceSphere, can make a substantial impact here. They offer a platform for fluid document conversations through a user-friendly chat interface, enhancing user engagement and understanding. The ability to interact conversationally with documents could serve to deepen insights during the programming phase, capturing the dynamic nature of how we experience spaces. It's innovative approaches like VoiceSphere (found at voicesphere.co) that could redefine stakeholder engagement in architectural design processes. This might be an interesting angle for your exploration on how technology intersects with your field's evolving practices.Radhikahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03153178331272185850noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5646971795138346223.post-2954396261308337422023-12-31T14:24:14.106-08:002023-12-31T14:24:14.106-08:00Happy New Year!!!Happy New Year!!!mrs randomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17366274374149953432noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5646971795138346223.post-15844073458255241082023-12-10T12:28:48.033-08:002023-12-10T12:28:48.033-08:00I have always appreciated the way building defined...I have always appreciated the way building defined the edge of campus. Thinking about this a bit ...Thanks for the comment. Thinking about this a bit further, I'm not sure my point was to pine for an apolitical architecture. My primary lament is the weaponization of architecture to further political agendas.

We design and build within contexts that are inherently political. I would argue that designing in ways that foster inclusivity, equity, and sustainability fall well within the realm of what architects should attend to, and thus are fundamental to what they do. You're correct in stating that the profession today is unlikely to promote a neutral or hands-off approach. The American Institute of Architects lists a commitment to tolerance (equity and human rights) and sustainability within its official statement of values.

Architects owe a fiduciary duty to their clients. Whether the exercising of professional judgment on the client's behalf should fundamentally include advocacy for inclusivity, equity, or sustainability is a point of considerable debate.Randy Nishimura, AIA, CSI, CCShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16158917130374113534noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5646971795138346223.post-73257350650490581702023-11-28T20:21:43.789-08:002023-11-28T20:21:43.789-08:00"Architecture, a traditional reflection of cu..."Architecture, a traditional reflection of culture and society, has been co-opted by agendas that extend well beyond the discipline’s bounds. Instead of serving as a medium for inclusive, equitable, and sustainable design, architecture is now too often a tool of propaganda, inflamed by the cauldron of social media."

This part seems to slightly undermine your appeal to apoliticize architecture because one can argue that "inclusive, equitable, and sustainable design" is an “agenda” that "extend(s) well beyond the discipline’s bounds". If architecture, like beauty, is to be truly apolitical, then there would be no need for architectural practitioners to speak about anything that has nothing to do with architecture: inclusivity, ethics, freedom, sustainability, etc. and these topics, while interesting, are not fundamental to what practitioners do on a day-to-day basis. The reality of the profession is that clients pay for architectural services and once those services are rendered, they move on. I highly doubt the modern profession and academy would be willing to promote such a neutral and hands-off approach.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5646971795138346223.post-33659590090617391292023-11-26T11:23:35.345-08:002023-11-26T11:23:35.345-08:00I believe you may be thinking of Michael Graves. h...I believe you may be thinking of Michael Graves. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_GravesRandy Nishimura, AIA, CSI, CCShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16158917130374113534noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5646971795138346223.post-29359136112551271232023-11-19T18:45:46.356-08:002023-11-19T18:45:46.356-08:00Hi! To my credit, I don't feel like I've ever really "grown up." I still think like I do when I was a child. I still find life and all it has to offer to be wondrous and endlessly fascinating. This may be why the comic strip Calvin & Hobbes is so captivating. Calvin's dreams appeal to me because I can directly relate to them. I am Calvin. I enjoy his colorful and whimsical scenarios, but also appreciate the deeper themes and messages the comic strip explores.Randy Nishimura, AIA, CSI, CCShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16158917130374113534noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5646971795138346223.post-2039163048610453592023-10-29T14:13:32.771-07:002023-10-29T14:13:32.771-07:00With the exception of hockey, I had many of the sa...With the exception of hockey, I had many of the same interests, though I came to architecture much later. I really don't know where you are coming from on this one Randy. A housing project that is predominantly brick will be welcome here. Housing is usually by definition background urban fabric. We don't need random busy gestures, but simple, elegant, urban fabric spread across many buildings. The totality of the planned development looks overall to be hitting much higher densities than A&D had originally planned.
